PURPLE MOUNTAIN MAJESTY
I was into painting mountain scenes at one point because my grand-daughter, Niamh, asked me to paint such a scene for her. I discovered that I liked some snow on the mountains. Perhaps when Ed and I vacationed in New Mexico and Colorado and visited Seana and Tom in Alaska, I discoverd my love for mountain scenes with some snow. Of course, the Rockies continue into New Mexico where we lived at one point, known as the Sangre de Cristo Mountains which we often drove near or through on our trips north to Santa Fe. You will see two mountain scenes on the website. This one is with a stronger purple color making the mountain seem larger, bolder, and closer. While this is not a particular mountain, it emerged from my recollection of some scenes Ed and I enjoyed seeing in the Rockies.

In this scene, the mountain is more quiet in the background versus the Purple Mountain Majesty. I wanted to make the lake side more prominent with the trees and water reflections the focus. I imagined while I painted this that I was across the lake looking and feeling a sense of calm wonder. I am always amazed at the awe that I feel looking at any of the many remarkable mountain ranges in this country but particularly about the mountain ranges still ‘growing’ like the Rockies and the Adirondacks.

ABSTRACT LAKE SCENE
I decided that I wanted to paint an abstract scene and saw that a few artists had done this with a water scene so that reflections uniquely enhance the scene. Water, trees and sky are the landscape elements. The colors including the reflections were the fun part for me. And of course, are what made this painting abstract.
